| OUR PEOPLEOver a delightful chardonnay, a few friends were putting the world to rights one day when one of them made the mistake of saying, "Let's get our own winery". It was such a patently ridiculous thing to do that they immediately went out and started looking for a suitable vineyard. Along the way they inveigled several other hapless investors into their plot. It took four years for them to find Mount Michael and another year to persuade its owners to part with it but eventually it fell into the hands of our little band of enthusiasts. And such is their enthusiasm and passion that syndicate head Peter Morrison and his family have moved to Cromwell to keep an eye on things. Want to meet our team? They are... Peter Morrison - managing partner A wealth creation specialist, Peter's innovative approach to business solutions makes him the perfect choice to oversee Mount Michael Wines. The founder of the Summit Group of companies, Peter is chairman of the Summit Financial Group, as well as director of Mount Michael Wines & Estates Ltd.Shane Goodger - estates manager Shane's family has lived in the area for six generations, which nearly makes him a local. His great grandfather - George Wellington Goodger - began the area's first brewery and owned a local goldmine, so booze is in the blood as it were.Shane's a tough old bugger too. One night in the spring of 2005 when a cold front hit us, he was out at midnight sucking on frozen sprinklers to defrost and activate them to keep the frost at bay. Not much fun when the temperature is below zero, it's windy and snowing, and you get drenched in the process. But like most Southern blokes, he just took it in his stride. Shane started managing Mount Michael's vineyard in 2002 when Sue and Martin Anderson still owned the business. It's our good luck that he stayed on to help us. "Pruning is where the vintage starts. If you don't get the pruning right, you don't get the grapes" is his motto. | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | |||
